As a passionate artist with extensive experience in painting pets and wildlife, I take great pride in bringing your beloved companions to life on canvas. My keen understanding of animal anatomy and behavior allows me to capture the unique personality and spirit of each pet, ensuring that every piece resonates with its owner. With a long list of satisfied customers who appreciate my attention to detail, you can trust that I will portray your pet just as you envision them.

How it works

01

Make a request

Send an email to katehetherington.art@yahoo.com, message via this website, or visit me at the studio in Ilminster

03

Agree on a sketch

Once the details of the painting are decided, Kate will sketch out the commission to give a visual idea of how the final painting will look. At this point, any changes can be made to ensure the finished painting will be precisely as envisioned.

05

The long journey to the end!

Kate will spend the next month or more working on your painting in layers to add detail and ensure your subject is represented exactly as you see them. In the case of pet portraits, the aim is not just to paint the type of pet you own, but your exact friend - characterful and precise.

Photographs will be sent at regular intervals and on request to check that even the details only you would notice, have been added.

02

Decide details

Have a conversation with Kate about what the subject of the painting will be, any background, or additional elements, and the size of the painting. At this point, cost will be discussed as it varies depending on number of subjects, complexity, and size.

After this, any reference photgraphs will be shared.

04

Start the painting

Once a sketch has been agreed upon, a 20% deposit will be required to cover material costs and initial work. After this, the sketch will be made on the canvas and the basic light and dark undercoat will be painted. Again, a photograph will be taken and sent to you for approval. Many changes can still be made at this point.

06

Get your painting

Oil paint takes a long time to dry but once your painting is safe to transport, full payment will be made and your painting will be sent by courier for you to enjoy! If you prefer, paintings can also be collected from the Ilminster studio in person.

Each painting comes with a certificate of authenticity that we recommend you keep in an envelope attatched to the back of your painting when you hang it up so it isn't lost.

While framing services cannot be offered, there are plenty of great framers in the area and some that Kate will recommend if you like.

My friend loved her portrait and said it's the best gift she's ever been given!
